Volkswagen Beetle
Convertible
Volkswagen can never be
accused of bringing out a car before it has been thoroughly tested, and
the Volkswagen Beetle convertible is no exception. This car is probably one of the best engineered
and most thoroughly tested convertibles in history - but then again it
should be - it took VW long enough to release it!
Can the engineers at VW actually
justify such a long wait? Absolutely. Not only is the VW Beetle one of the most attractive
convertibles, (regardless of price), the car is also an engineering
masterpiece with advanced rollover protection mechanisms making this car
safer than some hard tops. The body of the car is stiffer than most
convertibles and the Beetle convertible is equipped with a long list of
standard equipment. But perhaps the most surprising thing about the new
Beetle convertible is the price, which starts at about $20,450 U.S. for the
GL 2, $21,850 for the GLS 2, and about $25,550 fully loaded with the Turbo
charged (rocket ship type) engine. Unfortunately, we Canadians aren't
sheltered from our weak dollar on this car. In Canada the car starts at
about $29,000 and goes up to about $36,000 fully loaded.
Fortunately, Canadian Volkswagen dealer's are among the most honest people
in the car business, and they will not accept a dime over list price for
any cars they sell, so as long as you deal directly with a Volkswagen
dealer, you'll get a fair price, even in Canada.
We expect that this car is
going to sell very briskly so we recommend that you visit your VW dealer with your checkbook as soon as possible to place a deposit on this
car. The Volkswagen convertible should be a car that you can keep happily
for 15 or 20 years, driving it and enjoying it regularly!
